The Philadelphia Blues Messengers |

The Blues Messengers are a rock-solid innovative Philadelphia blues quintet who have established their reputation as a good-time jam band by playing and singing the soulful music of men like Muddy Waters, Little Walter, and Elmore James, as well as original compositions that reflect the band's respect for and interest in groove-driven roots music. They have forged a connection to world beat music and avant-garde jazz through their long association with Philly saxophone legend Byard Lancaster and didgereedoo guru and percussion powerhouse Harold Smith. The Blues Messengers believe in the power of music to bring all people together, and in the power of the blues as an ancient connection to basic life energy. | |

Blues Messengers at West Oak lane 2007 |
The Blues Messengers will be opening the evening concert at 7:25 PM on the Walnut Lane Stage on Saturday June 23. Joining Byard Lancaster and the Blues Messengers within the 50 minute set, the dynamic Lisa Chavous will knock the crowd out with her powerful vocals, drawing comparisons to such old-school blueswomen as Ruth Brown, Etta James, and Tina Turner. Following the Blues Messengers will be the iconic and supersonic strains of the pioneering Sun Ra Arkestra, led by Marshall Allen. |

The Blues Messengers at West Oak |

The Philadelphia Blues Messengers want to thank Warren Oree and all of the organizers of the West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival 2007. The Festival is on its way to becoming one of the best jazz festivals on the East Coast and is a wonderful way to bring together the community of musicians that call Philadelphia home. Philadelphia is the Mother City of democracy. All of the participants in the festival are dedicated to the continuation of the music of the people, for the people, and by the people. Byard lancaster said it: "MUSIC IS OUR OIL." Let's work together, Philly Love from the Messengers
